What To Do With Them

There are so many different uses for these Word Search Puzzles – the sky is your limit! You can take them anywhere you go and use them at any time! They’ll be great for screens-free time where they can use their brains instead of just being distracted by something mindless. Great for long car journeys, planes, and long waits anywhere that may test their patience.

These puzzles can also be made into more of a game. You could try and time your little one while they complete them and see how quickly they can finish them correctly. Record their times and see if they can beat their last one!

Or take the same idea and do it with a group of friends or their peers. Time them all while they complete the word search and see who manages to do this first (with all of the correct answers importantly!) The competitiveness will be good to motivate them and help them focus. It’ll also of course teach them key social skills of how to be a kind winner, and a gracious loser.

They would also be a fantastic resource or activity to do as part of a themed event. Whether it be a lesson about the Mesozoic Era, or a kids dinosaur themed birthday party, these would be perfect.

They’re also great as the fun can keep going after the word search is completed. Try and discuss the words they’ve just found within the puzzle and see which they know how to pronounce, which ones they know the meaning of, and whether they know much about the dinosaur named. It’s a great learning opportunity for them, and you can either task them to go and research anything they’re not sure of, or teach it to them yourself.

Or you could get them to do other games and puzzles with the words they were originally tasked to find – for example they could create their own crossword puzzle with clues they already know or from their research. Or even more simply put the words into a simple game of hangman!

Even better for your creative little ones who love to write and tell stories – get them to take a selection of the words and make a story or paragraph containing them. It’s great writing practice which really exercises their creative writing skills too.

As we briefly mentioned before, there are many different benefits of word search puzzles. They firstly help with word recognition, as your kid will be actively searching to find words within the puzzle. This also benefits their key skill of reading, which is always a good one to practice and improve for a kid of any age or ability.

These puzzles will also help with their vocabulary and spelling. It will either be a reminder for words or dinosaur names they already know, or will help them learn new ones.

It’s a quiet and screens-free activity that they can focus on and work to improve their attention span. These key concentration skills are important for them to learn and will benefit them massively in school.

Puzzles like these also work on key problem solving skills which help develop a logical and patient brain. Critical thinking like this encourages them to think outside of the box and in new ways. Practicing these skills only makes them more efficient and easier to use in the future.

And of course as we mentioned earlier it can help teach them about different topics. They can learn things by researching the dinosaurs they don’t know much about, or just discussing things they find interesting and topics they know about with different people. It’s great to encourage their curiosity about about topics they’re interested in.
